Upcoming West Coast Contests for Fall 2009

Surf kayak competition is one of the absolute best ways to sharpen your skills, test your abilities, meet new surf kayak buddies, and have an absolutely incredible time. If you're an old salt, you'll be excited to see several contests on the radar. If you're new to surf kayaking or surf contests, there are several exciting opportunities to try it out!

The following are all USWSKA scanctioned event, meaning points earned will count towards getting a place on the 2011 Worlds team! The 2011 Worlds are going to be held in the fall, in North Carolina at a world famous break. Expect competition for team slots to be tough.

Hoebuck Hoedown
October 3-4, 2009
At beautiful Hobuck Beach, Neah Bay, Washington

Clam Slam at Pismo Beach
October 17-18, 2009
This old favorite has been brought back to life. Held in conjunction with the Pismo Beach Clam Festival, it's a great one to bring the family to. Categories include:
Mens and Womens HP
Mens and Womens IC
Mens Masters HP
Mens Masters IC
Waveskis

1st Category: $75
2nd or 3rd Category: $25

Davenport Classic
October 24-25, 2009
Davenport is an incredibly gorgeous spot, frequently blessed with spectacular waves. The contest is exciting, the spills thrilling, and the spot gorgeous. Categories include:
Mens and Womens HP
Mens and Womens IC
Mens Masters (>40) HP
Mens Masters (>40) IC
Waveskis
Stand-up Paddling

1st Category: $65
Additional Category: $50

Registration is through Active.com and closes October 18, 2009 @ 11:59pm: Davenport Registration

You must be either an ACA member (bring your card to the check-in) or you'll have to pay $5 to the ACA for the event. A Saturday social is being planned.

2009 World Surf Kayak Championship Report

Congratulations to the US West Surf Kayak team for taking 7th place at the 2009 World Surf Kayak championships in Santa Cruz Portugal. This years team consisted of a small group of seasoned competitors and many fresh new faces. The team described conditions as being fierce, the paddle-out hard, and the competition fun. The performance of the US West competitors was superb both individually and as a team.

Devon Barker placed 4th in women's HP (short boat)
Jim Grossman placed 1st for master IC (long boat)
